I’m Being Paid in Smooches
I put up a new website this weekend. It’s my second ever, and so far I’m pretty happy with it. L needed a site her students could visit to find assignments and due dates and whatnot, and also a little showcase of her school’s goings-on. On Friday night she gave me some general direction, Saturday morning I took some photos (the header is a close-up of a vase we had tucked away in a cabinet), and by Saturday afternoon the homepage was ready to go. Naturally, it’s XHTML 1.0 Strict and valid CSS (the very first creative element I had for the site was the tagline “Strict teachers need Strict XHTML”).
Here’s a screenshot of the finished product (and by “finished product” I mean splash page — it’s the only thing up so far, and even it’s not actually finished):

The pretty background is from squidfingers’ gallery of amazing and free patterns. That guy is muy talented. This article at Roger Johansson’s wonderful 456 Berea Street showed me how to style the navigation links list into the horizontal “tabs” you can see just under the header. Pretty slick. I can’t wait to totally overuse this newfound power. Also, eventually there will be a slideshow powered by Todd Dominey’s SlideShowPro, which I bought awhile ago to use on Feaverish.com, but haven’t really gotten around to just yet.
As is my custom, I’ll be styling and adding content as I go along. Also, the site’s only been tested on Mac browsers so far, so things may look a little funky if for some idiotic reason you’re still using Internet Explorer on Windows. Please don’t.
Nice.
What’s the going exchange rate for smooches on dollars these days? I tried paying for my scone and tea with them this morning. She wasn’t impressed.

Ironically, I’m paid at an inverse kisses per hour rate. In other words, the more hours I spend hunched over a keyboard and ignorning her, the fewer smooches I get. The less time I spend working, the more I’m paid! If only all employers were this generous (um, and attractive).

not a bad site, son. let me know when the ‘slideshow’ is up. I’ll tell you what I think- I believe myself to be quite an expert in sliding.
all my best,
