Take Away Shows
Have you seen La Blogotheque’s Take Away Shows? They’re these amazing little videos of public live performances by a bunch of my favorite artists. Most of them are just hand-held camera shots following the musicians as they walk around the streets of various European cities, and they’re so, so good.
Some of my favorites:
The Arcade Fire, the first video especially. You have to wait through a couple of uneventful minutes, but things really take off once they get into the freight elevator.
Beirut. I mean, he already sounds like he spends all day walking around Europe singing, so these videos seem more like a-day-in-the-life documentary than anything else.
Menomena. I never thought these guys would do that well on an acoustic set, but the first video here is pretty amazing.
Elvis Perkins. You kids are all huge Elvis Perkins fans, right?
Update! How could I forget about Islands? Strummed violin!!
Yes, Take Away Shows are great. The Grizzly Bear ones are my absolute favourite, especially The Knife.
I’ve pretty much worked out what you’re doing. A quick post at the end of every month just so you have a complete list of months in the archives. Sneaky.
